what is the Highest?
The Highest is a Person – King Jesus Christ. Every atom in the universe is in its proper place because of him. Despite his standing as the Highest King, he came to earth and made himself like the lowest – us. He came not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many. Through his death, our sin is paid; through his Resurrection, our eternal life is purchased. On the merits of Jesus, all people, regardless of former sins, are invited into a relationship with God that starts today and never ever ends.
“Jesus, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped. But he made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant and being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the Highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.” –Philippians 2:6-9
Following King Jesus means that we use the entirety of our personhood to make much of him; we offer all that we are and have to elevate his Name.
In the words of Oswald Chambers, it is OUR UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.
Soli Deo Gloria.
